An Unexpected Friend

"YES!" exclaimed Kayla when all the customers were gone, "I'm so tired, I can barely stand up."
"Yeah, I never thought a cafe would get so much business, and it's only our first day," said Diane.
"Come on guys, you'll be fine, at least we get paid," said Nikki.
"Yeah," said Lola. "And Di, come on, it's only your first day, you can whine after one week, I've only started since like, I think it was yesterday."
"Yeah, fine, but I'm marking after one week, I'm not kidding," said Diane.
"I think it's fun, I like working at a place where you get sweets, get paid, and you save the world," said Stephanie.
"Oh yeah, let's see how long it takes for you to start complaining Steph," said Kayla,"I have worked longer than all of you."
"Only by a few," said Nikki.
"Yeah yeah, whatever, I have to go home now, bye," said Kayla.
"See ya," said Lola.
"Bye," said Diane. Kayla waved good-bye and left.
On her way home all Kayla could think about was Elliot. Kayla bumped into a girl with pink hair, she seemed familiar, but Kayla had no idea where she'd seen her before. She pushed it aside, and helped the girl up,
"I'm sorry, are you ok," said Kayla.
"Yeah, I'm sorry, I didn't see where I was going," said the girl.
"I'm Kayla. What's your name?" asked Kayla.
"Uhh...I'm Sp..I mean Sarah," she answered and gave a weird little chuckle. Kayla was a little suspicious, but she paid no attention to it.
"Where do you go to school?" asked Kayla.
"Oh, I'm uhh, home schooled," said Sarah quickly, "what about you?"
"I go around here," said Kayla. All of a sudden, it started to rain very hard, Sarah and Kayla ran for cover,
"That's weird, the weatherman said that the skies would be clear today, no chance of rain," said Kayla.
"Yeah, but I have an umbrella, I always carry it around just in case, can't trust the weather all the time," said Sarah.
"Yeah. Hey Sarah, where's your house?" said Kayla.
"I live out of town, I only come around sometimes," said Sarah.
"Then you can come to my house, it's nearby, let's go," said Kayla. Kayla and Sarah started walking, and Sarah had a grin look on her face!
When they got to Kayla's house Kayla gave Sarah some extra clothes to change in to and some tea and cake. They suddenly heard a loud BOOM outside the house,
"Wow, it's storming pretty badly, do you want to stay the night?" said Kayla.
"Sure, thanks a lot," said Sarah.
"But don't you have to call your house?" asked Kayla.
"Oh, umm, no see I'm an orphan, my parents and I were in a car accident three years ago, and by some miracle, so I've been living in the house with my nanny ever since," said Sarah.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but won't your nanny get worried?" said Kayla.
"No, don't worry, she knows that I can take care of myself, and if I'm in trouble, I'd definately let her know somehow," said Sarah.
"Ok, whatever suits you best," said Kayla, "but let me tell my parents, be right back," Kayla got up and went downstairs. As soon as Kayla left, Sarah ha another grin smile, she started to glow, then she changed in to Spry,
"Thank you very much, now I can finally get rid of you and those annoying little pests you call friends and we'll finally be able to reach our goal, and no one will stop us," she said.* Spry heard Kayla coming upstairs, she quickly changed back into Sarah, Kayla came in,
"Okay, you can stay, but lights out in two hours," she said.
"No problem," said Spry. The girls stayed up and talked then about two hours later Kayla's mom came and told them to go to sleep,
"Okay, goodnight mom," said Kayla.
"Goodnight, thanks Mrs. Carr," said Spry.
"Goodnight girls," said Mrs. Carr. She closed the door and the girls fell asleep.

*From now on Sarah will be called Spry

New Student

The next day Kayla reluctantly got up to get dressed for school, and she barely got out of bed. she walked down the stairs and sat down at breakfast with her parents, "Hello Kayla," said Mrs. Carr.

"Hi," she said back, "Good morning dad." her father was just coming down the stairs,

"Oh, hello Kayla," he said, "are you ready for school?"

"Yes, I'm going to meet Nikki and we're going to walk together," answered Kayla.

"That's great, I hope you have a good day," her dad said. then there was a loud sound Mr. Carr looked down, it was his beeper, "oops, looks like they need me, bye." When Mr. Carr left, Kayla ate her breakfast and left to meet Nikki.
Kayla walked to Nikki's house and rang the doorbell it wasn't a Nikki that answered but it was a woman, "Hello, how can I help you?" she asked.
"I'm Kayla, I'm a friend of Nikki's, we're going to school together, is she here?" said Kayla.
"Yes, of course, come on in, I'm Nikki's mother," she said
"Thank you," Kayla walked inside, she loved the house, all over there were antiques on bookshelves and beautiful vases and in the front there were huge steps. It's so nice to see that Nikki made a friend, she's very nice, but she can be a little shy," said Mrs. Hanson, "look, here she comes now." Kayla saw Nikki descending from the stairs,
"Are you ready to go Nikki?" Kayla asked her.
"Yep, let's go," said Nikki, "bye mom."
Once outside Kayla started talking to Nikki, "Your mom seems nice, does she work?" she asked.
"No, she stays home to take care of me, she's kind of overprotective, but it's fun because we do a lot of stuff together, and when I'm not home she goes shopping with her friends," said Nikki.
"Cool, what about your dad?" Kayla asked.
"He owns a restaurant, but he gets a lot of business, so he usually come back whenever I'm not here, so I barely see him, but it's cool, we go and eat there some times," answered Nikki.
"Wow, well, at least you can get good food whenever you want, right," said Kayla.
"Yeah, we get free food. so what about you what do your parents do?" asked Nikki.
"My dad's a doctor, he's a neurologist, a brain doctor, and my mom helps him a lot, it's fun," said Kayla.
"Awesome, hey, I just remembered, I was going to ask you, what class are you in? I wonder if we're in the same one, that would be cool," said Nikki.
"I'm in class 7-A, what about you?" asked Kayla.
"I'm in 7-A too! Hmm, maybe we just didn't notice each other, I do get kind of shy around people, but I always loved to go swimming and it was fun to play with the aquatic animals," said Nikki.
"Maybe that's why your the water protector," said Kayla in a hushed voice. They both laughed, and soon they reached the school. When they got in the school Nikki said, "Hey, I heard that there will be a new student today, I wonder if she's in our class, that'll be so cool."
"Yeah, and it would be really funny if she was a protector," said Kayla.
"Yeah, imagine that," said Nikki. They went to class and got their books out and when the bell rang and everybody was in their seats the teacher, Mrs. Hart, introduced the new student, "Everybody, I'd like to introduce a new student of ours," a girl came in, "this is Lola Wheeler, let's see, why don't you sit behind Kayla right there, Kayla, I want you to help her and show her around, and nobody should bother her." Lola walked and sat behind Kayla,
"Hey, I'm Kayla, if you need anything you can ask me," said Kayla.
"Ok, thanks," said Lola. After school Lola ran up to Kayla and her friends,
"Hey, can I hang out with you guys?"asked Lola.
"Sure, of course you..." Meg was interrupted something was ringing very loud, and it was coming from Kayla's backpack, "Kayla, what is that?" asked Sarah.
"It must be my phone, one sec," said Kayla. When she looked it wasn't her cell phone, it was actually the Power Wand, and it was glowing very brightly, that means that the protector is very close, and it's also extremely loud, how can that be? But it started after Lola came, no way, I was just joking before, oh wow. After a while the beeping and glowing got softer and dimmer, That's weird, I should go to Mark and Lewis, maybe they know what's going on.
Who is it Kayla?" asked Nikki. Kayla looked up,
"Oh it's nothing. Hey Nikki, would you meet me outside? I have to tell you something very important," said Kayla.
"Umm, sure, one sec guys," answered Nikki. Once outside Kayla told Nikki abut the Power Wand, and how moments after, it just went dimmer and softer, when she finished Nikki looked petrified, "That can't be real, no way!" exclaimed Nikki.
"I know, maybe we should get this to Mark and Lewis, they'll know what to do," said Kayla.
"Right, well let's go inside now, come on," said Nikki. When they got inside they found Meg, Sarah, and Lola waiting for them, "What did you guys do?" asked Lola.
"Oh, nothing, I just needed to give Nikki something, it's a surprise, don't worry," answered Kayla.
"Ok" said Sarah. then they started walking again.
"Hey Kayla, don't you and Nikki work now?" asked Meg.
"Yeah, it's at the new cafe that opened up,"said Nikki.
"Cool, can we come, it would be so cool," said Sarah.
"Sure, why not?" said Kayla, "hey Lola, do you want to come? Nikki and I work at the new cafe, do you know where that is?"
"I would like to come, but I have no idea where that is," said Lola.
"That's cool, you can come with us," said Meg. Then they walked off to the cafe talking.
At the cafe Kayla got changed then went straight to Mark and Lewis to tell them about the Power Wand. When she found them she told them to meet her in the base, then when Nikki came she said everything. "Well, there's only one explanation, obviously Lola is one of the protectors," said Mark.

"That may be true, but that doesn't explain why the wand got dimmer and softer," said Lewis, "we'll have to look into this, but meanwhile, you need to tend to the customers, we'll talk after work." Then with that they scurried off to meet their friends, and the mysterious Lola, "Could she really be a protector?" Kayla asked herself, at least we'll have somebody to help us, *sigh*, but I feel sorry for her, she has no idea what's going to happen to her.

The Dream

When Kayla got home that night she was a mix of happy and sad, but halfway up the stairs she got dizzy and almost didn't even make it up to her room, she laid down and soon went to sleep.

When Kayla opened her eyes there was a dark room, and the only sign of people were shadows and voices, there was nobody else but Kayla, "How could you lose twice in a row all in one day?" Kayla heard a harsh voice say. "I'm very sorry Lord Galen, they're just too powerful, we tried our best," there was a familiar voice. Kayla looked, she was surprised to find Kaji and Spry kneeling down in front of a cloaked figure that she took to be the leader, the one they called Lord Galen. "How are we supposed to carry out our plans if you two can't do your jobs right!?" said Galen.

"Of course my lord," said Kaji.
"Good, now..." Kayla took a step back, then her shoes made a loud squeak,
"Who's there?" asked Spry.
"Fools, go look, and bring him here alive, I wish to deal with him myself," said Galen. Kayla started to run away, then the scene changed, and everything turned pitch black, Kayla tried to scream, but no sound came out, then she opened her eyes and... Kayla was back in her room, she got up and looked around, she looked so pale as if she had seen a ghost, she got out of bed and headed straight for work.
Kayla got to work early, and she even saw Nikki there, she was surprised since it was Nikki's day off, "What are you doing here Nikki?" asked Kayla, "I thought that today was your day off."
"It was, but I thought that you'd be a little stressed out because of Elliot, so I arrived early so I could help you out," said Nikki.
"Thanks, that really helps me," said Kayla, "and it's a good thing you're here, I have to tell you guys something, are Mark and Lewis here? This is important."
"Yeah, I think they're in the basement," said Nikki. Just then Mark walks in and is happy to see Kayla, but is also surprised, "Kayla, I didn't expect to see you here this early, is everything ok?" asked Mark.
"Sort-of, not really, I mean, ooh, come in the base, I have to tell you guys something important."
In the base Kayla told Mark, Lewis, and Nikki all about the dream, and when she finished Mark and Lewis were pacing all around the room, and it was making Nikki and Kayla dizzy. "So you saw Kaji and Spry along with another figure? Is that right?" asked Lewis.
"Yeah, it was really weird," answered Kayla.
"But it was just a dream, it's not like it really happened, right?" asked Nikki.
"But I think it did, I mean, I could hear every word clearly, it was like I was in their lair," said Kayla, "and when my shoes made a squeak they could hear it,, and they were after me in a second."
"Well, it seems that Kayla's mind can some how see into the enemy's plans," said Mark, "we could use this for our benefit to beat them and their leader, Lord Galen or whatever."
"Yeah, all we have to do is learn how to control it," said Lewis.
"But how are we going to do that?" asked Nikki.
"Well first we have to find out what triggered it," said Mark, he looked at Kayla, "what happened before you had the dream?"
"Well, I don't really know, but, I was kind of sad, and I had no idea what was going on, then when I got home I was so dizzy and it was a miracle that I reached my room, then when I fell asleep the dream started, it was really scary," then Kayla was interrupted.
"Hello, is anyone there?" asked a voice.
"It must be a customer, you go, we can talk later," said Mark. Kayla and Nikki ran up the stairs and got into the skates, when they saw the customer it turned out to be Elliot, "Elliot? what are you doing here?" asked Kayla.
"I'm here because wanted to ask you if you were doing anything next Saturday," said Elliot.

"No, I haven't made any plans yet, why?" Kayla said back.
"Well, there's a new movie coming out so I was going to ask you to go with me," he answered.
"I'd love to, thanks. Oh, I almost forgot, this is my new friend, Nikki, Nikki, this is Elliot," Kayla introduced them to each other.
"Hi, nice to meet you," said Nikki.
"Hello. Well, I''ll see you at school tomorrow, bye?" said Elliot.
"Bye, see you," Kayla said. When Elliot left the customers started to pour in, Nikki and Kayla got right to work, but Kayla couldn't help but space out every now and then. By the time the customers left it was closing time and Kayla and Nikki had to get home, so they couldn't go back and figure out what triggered Kayla's dream, "We'll talk later," said Lewis.
"Ok, bye," said Kayla. Then they ran off.
Back in the enemy's lair Lord Galen punishes his minions. "YOU IDIOTS, HOW COULD YOU LOSE TWICE? THEN YOU LET THAT INTRUDER GET AWAY, THEY COULD HAVE HEARD OUR PLANS! I AM AT THE END OF MY ROPE WITH YOU TWO, YOU BETTER MAKE A TURN AROUND SOON, OR SO HELP ME, I WILL CUT OFF BOTH OF YOUR HEADS AND MOUNT THEM ON MY WALL, YOU HEAR ME!" he yelled.
"Don't worry my lord," said Kaji.
"Yes, it won't happen again sir," said Spry. As soon as Galen left Spry said to herself, "I'll get you back you little protectors, don't you worry." Then they both walked off.

When they got to the park they saw a huge bull-like monster, and its tongue acts like a whip, and if it hits you with it then you'll be immobilized. Once it saw Kayla and Nikki the monster started lashing out at them, “You have to transform!” yelled Kayla. They jumped to dodge the whip,
“How?” asked Nikki. They jumped again,
“Just say something, it'll just come to you!” Kayla answered. Nikki watched as Kayla kept dodging every move the giant bull threw at her, then Nikki made a decision. All of a sudden the whip came crashing down on her at full speed, Kayla thought that this would be the end of her, then she heard, “BUBBLES AQUA RIBBON!” The demon was hit, and it looked badly hurt, when Kayla looked up she saw...Protector Aqua! She was also wearing a girl's collar shirt, hers was just like Kayla's, only hers was all blue all over, her boots were the same color, but they only extended a little past her ankles, and the gloves were a kind of babyish-blue. and on her forehead was the symbol of a crescent moon. “You did it,” Kayla shouted, “you turned into a protector, you do know you have the power over water, you can make it out of thin air, and you can manipulate it too.”
“Really? That's cool, but let's talk later, first you have to defeat the monster,” said Nikki. They looked, the Demon Worker, it was very weak, but it was getting up, and it's still a threat to them, “Power Wand, EARTH FLASH POWER!” In a matter of seconds the monster disappeared. Suddenly Mark and Lewis appeared, “Great job, you vanquished the monster,” said Mark, “but..”
“What happened?” asked Lewis. They turned, the park was completely wrecked,
“I'm guessing that our Saturdays are going to be spent doing a lot of community service,” Nikki said regrettably. They changed back. “Don't forget to come to your first day of work tomorrow Nikki,” said Lewis, at that Nikki was stopped in her tracks, she turned to face them, “Aw, why tomorrow, do I have to?” she whined and everyone started laughing.
When they got to the cafe Nikki tried on her uniform, hers was just like Kayla's, only, Nikki's was blue, and the apron had her name, “Well now that we know how the uniform looks on you I guess you have to change back into your normal clothes,” said Mark, “it's closing time, see you tomorrow.”
“Great, I have to get home, see you, bye Nikki,” said Kayla, and she ran off. For the next three days the only thing that Kayla could think about was Elliot and this coming Friday, Nikki had no idea what was going on with her, but Kayla was acting too weird, so she was too scared to ask her. When Saturday finally came it seemed like it took forever for Kayla, but she was very exited and couldn't wait until 12, and since she had a day off from work for this reason, Kayla just met up with Sarah at the mall until 11, then she saw Elliot right in front of them, she was actually surprised to see him.
"Elliot, what are you doing here?"
"Nothing, I'm just looking around, I have to go now, but I can't wait for our date, the Spy Museum is the best museum ever, and, it's hands on," he looked at his watch, "I have to leave, bye, see ya." at that he ran out of the store. "What was that about? He looked as if he was hiding something" Kayla turned to see if she could still find him, then she turned back to Sarah, "It's ok, it's his private matter, if he wants to tell, then he will," said Kayla.
"Yeah, I guess," answered Sarah, "Now come on, let's browse a little more, then you can go home and get ready."
"Kay, let's go," said Kayla, a little distracted.
On the way to meet Elliot, Kayla walked a little slow, she was thinking about Elliot and the way that he acted at the mall, "Sarah was right, he was pretty suspicious," then she smiled, "Oh well, if he wants to tell me then he will, I guess."
She saw Elliot straight ahead, it seemed like he was holding some kind of small box in his hands, and he looked very strange. Nevertheless Kayla called out to him, "ELLIOT!" he turned to face me and smiled, Kayla ran up to him, "What's wrong, you seem pretty disturbed, if you don't want to go with me, I can go home," said Kayla.
"No," he immediately said, "of course I don't want you to leave, I called you here, it's just that, well," he pulled out a box, when he opened it there was a beautiful blue stone shaped like a star,"I bought this for you when I went to the mall today, I don't know if you like it, but well here,"
"Wow! Thank you so much," she said, dazzled by the stone's beauty, "it must've cost you a lot of money"
"That's ok, but I have something to ask you, and whatever you say you can keep the necklace," he put it on her, "Kayla, I really have to say something, and I don't care what decision you take, but well, I haveto say this, Kayla, I kind of well...umm," stuttered Elliot.
"What is it?" asked Kayla. Elliot took a deep breath and very quickly blurted out
"I really love you Kayla and will you be my girlfriend!?" Elliot's heart was pumping harder than ever, he had no idea what would happen next. Kayla was very happy, but then a sad feeling came over her and she was torn apart, on one hand shecould finally fulfill her dream, but on the other, she would be putting her love in danger, and she couldn't even tell him why. Kayla started to cry, and before Elliot could say a word, she ran away, and when Elliot looked in his hand, he saw the necklace he had given her.
