Protectors-Chapter 8
New Student
The next day Kayla reluctantly got up to get dressed for school, and she barely got out of bed. she walked down the stairs and sat down at breakfast with her parents, "Hello Kayla," said Mrs. Carr.
"Hi," she said back, "Good morning dad." her father was just coming down the stairs,
"Oh, hello Kayla," he said, "are you ready for school?"
"Yes, I'm going to meet Nikki and we're going to walk together," answered Kayla.
"That's great, I hope you have a good day," her dad said. then there was a loud sound Mr. Carr looked down, it was his beeper, "oops, looks like they need me, bye." When Mr. Carr left, Kayla ate her breakfast and left to meet Nikki.
Kayla walked to Nikki's house and rang the doorbell it wasn't a Nikki that answered but it was a woman, "Hello, how can I help you?" she asked.
"I'm Kayla, I'm a friend of Nikki's, we're going to school together, is she here?" said Kayla.
"Yes, of course, come on in, I'm Nikki's mother," she said
"Thank you," Kayla walked inside, she loved the house, all over there were antiques on bookshelves and beautiful vases and in the front there were huge steps. It's so nice to see that Nikki made a friend, she's very nice, but she can be a little shy," said Mrs. Hanson, "look, here she comes now." Kayla saw Nikki descending from the stairs,
"Are you ready to go Nikki?" Kayla asked her.
"Yep, let's go," said Nikki, "bye mom."
Once outside Kayla started talking to Nikki, "Your mom seems nice, does she work?" she asked.
"No, she stays home to take care of me, she's kind of overprotective, but it's fun because we do a lot of stuff together, and when I'm not home she goes shopping with her friends," said Nikki.
"Cool, what about your dad?" Kayla asked.
"He owns a restaurant, but he gets a lot of business, so he usually come back whenever I'm not here, so I barely see him, but it's cool, we go and eat there some times," answered Nikki.
"Wow, well, at least you can get good food whenever you want, right," said Kayla.
"Yeah, we get free food. so what about you what do your parents do?" asked Nikki.
"My dad's a doctor, he's a neurologist, a brain doctor, and my mom helps him a lot, it's fun," said Kayla.
"Awesome, hey, I just remembered, I was going to ask you, what class are you in? I wonder if we're in the same one, that would be cool," said Nikki.
"I'm in class 7-A, what about you?" asked Kayla.
"I'm in 7-A too! Hmm, maybe we just didn't notice each other, I do get kind of shy around people, but I always loved to go swimming and it was fun to play with the aquatic animals," said Nikki.
"Maybe that's why your the water protector," said Kayla in a hushed voice. They both laughed, and soon they reached the school. When they got in the school Nikki said, "Hey, I heard that there will be a new student today, I wonder if she's in our class, that'll be so cool."
"Yeah, and it would be really funny if she was a protector," said Kayla.
"Yeah, imagine that," said Nikki. They went to class and got their books out and when the bell rang and everybody was in their seats the teacher, Mrs. Hart, introduced the new student, "Everybody, I'd like to introduce a new student of ours," a girl came in, "this is Lola Wheeler, let's see, why don't you sit behind Kayla right there, Kayla, I want you to help her and show her around, and nobody should bother her." Lola walked and sat behind Kayla,
"Hey, I'm Kayla, if you need anything you can ask me," said Kayla.
"Ok, thanks," said Lola. After school Lola ran up to Kayla and her friends,
"Hey, can I hang out with you guys?"asked Lola.
"Sure, of course you..." Meg was interrupted something was ringing very loud, and it was coming from Kayla's backpack, "Kayla, what is that?" asked Sarah.
"It must be my phone, one sec," said Kayla. When she looked it wasn't her cell phone, it was actually the Power Wand, and it was glowing very brightly, that means that the protector is very close, and it's also extremely loud, how can that be? But it started after Lola came, no way, I was just joking before, oh wow. After a while the beeping and glowing got softer and dimmer, That's weird, I should go to Mark and Lewis, maybe they know what's going on.
Who is it Kayla?" asked Nikki. Kayla looked up,
"Oh it's nothing. Hey Nikki, would you meet me outside? I have to tell you something very important," said Kayla.
"Umm, sure, one sec guys," answered Nikki. Once outside Kayla told Nikki abut the Power Wand, and how moments after, it just went dimmer and softer, when she finished Nikki looked petrified, "That can't be real, no way!" exclaimed Nikki.
"I know, maybe we should get this to Mark and Lewis, they'll know what to do," said Kayla.
"Right, well let's go inside now, come on," said Nikki. When they got inside they found Meg, Sarah, and Lola waiting for them, "What did you guys do?" asked Lola.
"Oh, nothing, I just needed to give Nikki something, it's a surprise, don't worry," answered Kayla.
"Ok" said Sarah. then they started walking again.
"Hey Kayla, don't you and Nikki work now?" asked Meg.
"Yeah, it's at the new cafe that opened up,"said Nikki.
"Cool, can we come, it would be so cool," said Sarah.
"Sure, why not?" said Kayla, "hey Lola, do you want to come? Nikki and I work at the new cafe, do you know where that is?"
"I would like to come, but I have no idea where that is," said Lola.
"That's cool, you can come with us," said Meg. Then they walked off to the cafe talking.
At the cafe Kayla got changed then went straight to Mark and Lewis to tell them about the Power Wand. When she found them she told them to meet her in the base, then when Nikki came she said everything. "Well, there's only one explanation, obviously Lola is one of the protectors," said Mark.

"That may be true, but that doesn't explain why the wand got dimmer and softer," said Lewis, "we'll have to look into this, but meanwhile, you need to tend to the customers, we'll talk after work." Then with that they scurried off to meet their friends, and the mysterious Lola, "Could she really be a protector?" Kayla asked herself, at least we'll have somebody to help us, *sigh*, but I feel sorry for her, she has no idea what's going to happen to her.
